Ensure safety of minorities

Self-Help Association for Rural People through Education and Entrepreneurship (Sharee), a rights-based organisation, arranged the discussion focusing on the rights of people of the religious minorities before and after the parliamentary elections.

Discussants suggested for formation of an independent commission for ensuring the rights of the people belonging to minority communities.
They highlighted the sufferings faced by the members of minority communities during electoral violence in previous polls.

Minister for Social Welfare Rashed Khan Menon was present as the chief guest while National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) chairman Kazi Reazul Hoque graced the occasion as the special guest.

Sharee executive director Preo Bala Biswas chaired the occasion while Dhaka University teacher Prof Mesbah Kamal presented a key-note paper on the state of violence against the people of minority community.

Former caretaker government advisor Sultana Kamal, rights activist Meghna Guhathakurta, Press Club general secretary Farida Yasmin and Bangladesh Hindu-Bouddha-Christian Oikya Parishad general secretary Rana Dasgupta were present on the occasion. Bhorer Kagoj editor Shyamal Dutta moderated the discussion.
